A maximum speed of 25 km/h is prescribed by law for pedelecs. This means that you do not need a driver's license or additional insurance.
According to Section 1 (3) of the Road Traffic Act (StVG), pedelecs are considered bicycles under traffic law and you do not need to be of a minimum age or have a driver's license to use them. You therefore do not need to take out any additional insurance cover, such as third-party liability, and the use of cycle paths is permitted. Pendix specifies a minimum age of 14 years for safety reasons. Although it is not compulsory to wear a helmet, we recommend that you wear one.
The Pendix eDrive fits almost every type of bicycle on the market. There are only a few requirements that your bicycle has to meet for mounting. Here you can find the installation requirements. You can continue to use your bike as a bike and only switch on the Pendix when you need assistance, for example on a hill. As the Pendix eMaschine works without a gearbox, there is no mechanical friction that would lead to high pedal resistance. The resistance is only around 6 watts, similar to that of a hub dynamo.
